The 18th edition of the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET), a pivotal examination for aspiring teachers in India, was successfully conducted on Sunday, 21st January, 2024. The examination, crucial for determining the eligibility of teachers for classes 1 to 5 (Paper-1) and classes 6 to 8 (Paper-2), witnessed robust participation with 9,58,193 candidates for Paper-1 and 17,35,333 candidates for Paper-2, totaling an impressive 26,93526 registrations. Held in 3418 test centres across 135 cities, the exam saw approximately 84% of registered candidates in attendance.
To ensure the examination’s smooth and fair conduct, an extensive team was deployed, comprising 137 City Coordinators (with two coordinators in some cities due to an excess of examination centres), 3418 Centre Superintendents, 4021 Observers, and 662 Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) officials/employees.
Continuing its tradition of convenience and innovation, the board has made significant strides towards digital transformation by providing digital mark sheets and eligibility certificates through DigiLocker, reflecting the board’s commitment to a ‘Green initiative’. This year, DigiLocker accounts will be created for all candidates who appeared in the CTET, with account credentials being communicated via the candidates’ registered mobile numbers with CBSE. This initiative not only eases the accessibility of essential documents but also aligns with the board’s environmental conservation goals.
The digital format of the mark sheet and eligibility certificate offers myriad benefits. These documents can be shared electronically, ensuring convenience and reducing the need for physical storage. For security, these documents are equipped with an encrypted QR code, allowing for verification through the DigiLocker mobile app. Additionally, as per the IT Act, the digitally signed mark sheet and eligibility certificate hold legal validity, further enhancing their utility and credibility.
This integration of technology in examination processes underscores the board’s dedication to environmental protection. By adopting digital measures, the board significantly contributes to saving resources like paper, trees, and water, and plays a part in reducing carbon emissions. The CTET’s successful implementation of these digital initiatives marks a significant milestone in the board’s journey towards sustainable and efficient examination management.
