In a significant stride towards bolstering the global education landscape, India actively participated in the first Education Working Group (EdWG) meeting under the Brazilian G20 Presidency. Conducted virtually, the meeting saw the Indian delegation, comprising senior officials from the Ministry, affirming the nation’s dedication to advancing the global education agenda.

The Indian delegation underscored the essence of capacity building for educational professionals, the adoption of innovative teaching-learning methodologies, and the imperative of making tech-enabled education more inclusive, high-quality, and collaborative. They also emphasized education’s pivotal role in attaining Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly through the Lifestyle for Environment (LiFE) initiative.

Drawing from the National Education Policy 2020, the delegation shared India’s success stories in various educational initiatives like SWAYAM, SWAYAM PRABHA, Academic Bank of Credit, and SAMARTH. They also highlighted the National Professional Standards for Teachers, the 4-year Integrated Teacher Education Programme, DIKSHA, NISHTHA, the Malviya Mission Teacher Training Programme, the National Mission for Mentoring, and collaborations with the industry to enhance educators’ skills in emerging technologies.

Brazil, hosting the EdWG track, outlined three critical areas for discussion:

  1. Valuing and Building Capacity of Education Professionals,
  2. Connecting Managers of Digital Resource Platforms for sharing educational materials on Education for Sustainable Development, and
  3. The G20 Award for School-Community Engagement.

These priorities aim to foster a comprehensive dialogue on elevating the stature and capabilities of education professionals globally, enhancing access to digital education resources, and recognizing exemplary school-community engagement initiatives.

The discussions are set to continue into the second day of the meeting on February 6th, 2024, focusing on the latter two priorities: digital education platforms and the award for school-community engagement. This meeting marks a promising step forward in collaborative efforts to reshape the future of global education, with India playing a crucial role in steering these conversations towards actionable outcomes.
