105 schools in Delhi have been directed to put a hold on the nursery admission process by the Delhi government. The directions have been given to schools that failed to make their criteria public within the prescribed deadline i.e. December 14. Even the parents have been advised, by the Directorate of Education (DoE) not to approach these schools till the department issues an order to avoid any inconvenience in case of a penal action initiated against the defaulter school.

"In order to maintain transparency and uniformity in admission, the admission process of these 105 schools at entry level for session 2019-20 shall be on hold till further orders," a senior DoE official added.

"If it is found that the said schools are taking admission despite being prevented to do so, necessary action as per norms will be taken without any further notice," the official also said.

Some criterias listed for admissions to the entry-level classes by schools include distance of student's residence from school, sibling quota, parents being alumni of the school, single child, first child.

The schedule released by the DoE states that the application window shall be open from Saturday till January 7 for the session 2019-20. By February 4, the first list of selected children, along with marks secured by them, will be released. The second list will be released on February 2; the nursery admission process is expected to conclude by March 31.

In Pre-primary and Class 1, twenty-five per cent seats will be reserved for economically weaker sections/disadvantaged groups. However, there has been no clarity yet on the schedule of the EWS admissions.
