16,000 poor school children from Ajmer City and surrounding areas will get shoes to improve health and general well-being of school education

Akshay Patra Foundation will distribute shoes to 16,000 poor school children from Ajmer City and surrounding areas to improve health and general well-being of school education.

The shoe distribution programme was inaugurated by education minister Vasudev Devnani and parliamentary secretary Suresh Rawat at a function held at Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education auditorium on Friday.

Prof. Devnani said the programme is part of government's endeavor to provide conducive environment for children from all segments. He also said that the education sector in Rajasthan is being revamped to provide competitive edge to children.

The minister said mid-day meal programme has addressed the issue of malnutrition and hunger among children of marginalised sections and now, distribution of shoes by Akshya Patra Foundation will also greatly contribute to their well-being.

He said new uniforms in government schools would be introduced from next year. Prof. Devnani further said that 13 lakh children were enrolled in schools in last two years and a target of 10 lakh has been set for this year alone.

Parliamentary secretary Suresh Rawat emphasised focusing on children's health along with quality education by including more sports activities in schools. 

Raghupati Das from Akshay Patra Foundation said mid-day meal programme in Ajmer would be extended to cover another 13 lakh more children.
