In probably the first case of a state government taking action against an educational institute for violation of norms of the Right to Education Act (RTE) 2009, the Delhi government on Wednesday took over the management of 2 branches of the Maxfort private school for violating education department norms.

"Rohini and Pitampura branches of Maxfort School have been taken over by the government. A team led by the SDM of the area along with the officials of the Education department reached both the branches of the school in the morning and completed the process," a government official said.

The official added that numerous complaints against the school like violation of rules in admission to children form economically weaker sections (EWS), maintaining false records and misappropriation of funds prompted the government to issue a notice to the school. When the school failed to provide a satisfactory reply, the education department was compelled to take this step.

All these violations amount to violations under the Delhi School Education (DSE) Act 1973 and Right to Education Act (RTE) 2009. Considering the grave violations, the government took prior approval from the Lt Governor, Najeeb Jung’s office before taking over the management of the schools.
