“Be it a child of poor or rich backgrounds, education of all should be same. Common school system and same quality of healthcare services for everyone is central to democracy.”

These famous words by Dr. Manohar Lohia, a nationalist and visionary in the times of our independence, says it all. One of the greatest issues in our country today is the education of the poor. The mismanagement of the government and the ill-execution of their policies has demeaned our education policies and rendered the children of our nation hopeless. With dreams and aspirations that reach the sky, these children have fallen prey to the corrupt politics that has plagued our nation.

And with the future of these innocent as well as the future of our nation is at stake, it is imperative that action be taken against the non-fulfilment of governmental promises. People like Sandeep Pandey, who has shown the determination to make this country a better place, are vital in the process of curing our nation from the disease of political corruption.

Raising voice against the improper execution of the August ’15 ruling by the Allahabad High Court which stated that, within 6 months, the UP government was to implement an order making it compulsory for all persons availing governmental benefits, people’s representatives and judges to send their wards to government schools, Sandeep Pandey held a dharna where he remained with an empty stomach for 10 days.

The order which was to be acted upon in the session of 2016-17, was to ensure that the government officials be aware of the devastating conditions of government schools across the area.

Owing to a consensus within his party and other such social activists across the nation, Mr Pandey ended his dharna. However, on the last day of his noble cause, he led a rally to CM Akhilesh Yadav’s office, handing him a memorandum stating his demands of the proper implementation of government policies.

Many social activists stood with Sandeep Pandey in this attempt to knock some sense into the government, namely, Medha Patkar, Justice (retd.) Rajinder Sachar, Kuldip Nayar, Dr. Sunilam, Yogendra Yadav, Anand Kumar, Prashant Bhushan, P.V Rajagopal, Rajendra Singh, G.G Parikh and Aneel Hegde.

Medha Patkar has also appealed to the court to take action against the government in order to seek justice for the children of the state.

Education for all should be made equal regardless of what socio-economic background they come from. These ideals should be engraved in the minds of the government officials if they wish to not make the citizens regret the decision of them electing the, said, government.
