Catching them young, the Janki Devi School way, at the Birding Fair

Most schools prioritise studies and extra-curricular activities, but very few focus on teaching young minds the value of environmental conservation. Janki Devi Public School, Jaipur is among the few that do.

And what it does is very well illustrated by the its stall at the 19th Birding Fair organised by the Tourism Wildlife Society of India at the Man Sagar Lake on Friday and Saturday. One of the four stalls put up at the fair, it stands out for the creativity showcased on its walls through charts depicting its research project on the honeybee by class 9 students. In fact, the school’s unique research project has led to to the conservation of the honeybee being declared the theme of this year’s fair.

When approached, the teacher in charge of the project informed Team ScooNews that the young researchers had done quite a lot of work on the topic ranging from the secondary research and photography to illustrating their conclusions on paper in the form of charts.

There are three other stalls at the fair including one on animal rescue, particularly of the reptiles and birds, by the upcoming charitable trust Raksha, which does seminal work on bird rescue and treatment, particularly during Sankrant every year.

One of the organisations exhibiting at thefair is Commonwealth Human Ecology Council (CHEC) London. This UK-registered international development charity, that has been present in India since the 1970s, works on sustainable solutions to climate change, environmental degradation, etc.
