Commercialisation has become a major problem in the education system. It has made the institutions exorbitantly expensive for the common man, resulting in education loss. Noting this, CBSE has sent a notice to many private schools asking to adhere to the Bye-laws of the Board or face an action.

"Schools are expected to provide quality education without burdening child/parents and as such, schools should run as a community service and not as a business enterprise." Read the press release of CBSE 2016.

The statement said that any school found indulging in such practices shall be punished with fine which may extend to ten times the capitation fee charged and if a child is subjected to screening procedure, the school shall be punishable with fine which may extend to Rs 25,000 for the first contravention and Rs 50,000 for each subsequent contravention.

While speaking to Damodar Prasad Goyal, president of the society for unaided private schools of Rajasthan, he said;

"The capitation fee issue is the covered by Right to Education (RTE) and Supreme court judgements under which only the state is authorised to take an action. CBSE is just an examination board and shouldn't get into matters like these."

The CBSE Board has asked the unaided schools to consult parents through parent's representatives before taking up the issue of fee revision in the school management committee and that there should be no fee revision during the mid-session.
