The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has asked its affiliated schools to set up Aadhaar enrolment centres and encourage students, teachers and staff who do not have the identification number to be enrolled.

In a notification issued on 9th May 2017, the Board sought 'full cooperation from its affiliated schools' in enhancing the coverage of 'Aadhaar enrolment' to implement government project 'Mera Aadhaar, Meri Pehchaan'. According to the notification, CBSE has partnered with Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) as 'Registrar' to collect demographic and biometric data from residents directly or through Enrolment Agencies.
It is voluntary for Schools to set up Aadhar enrolment centres and the schools volunteering and desirous to extend their facilities for Aadhaar enrolment centres shall have to sign separate Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with CBSE or UIDAI, as the case maybe. While the schools will not be charging any fees for the Aadhaar enrolment, CBSE will pay them Rs. 30 for every enrolment.
The circular further added that equipments such as computer, printer, biometric devices and other such things will have to be procured by the school themselves and should be as per the UIDAI specifications.
The Board, as in February 2017, had 18,546 schools in India and 210 schools in 25 foreign countries.
