A citizen has forwarded a complaint to the Estate Office against a private school alleging that the school is misusing the land allotted to it by running commercial activities. The complaint has been in turn forwarded to Director of School Education, Chandigarh, CBSE chairman and CBSE regional office. All schools in the city had been allotted land at a highly subsidized rate on the condition that the school cannot conduct any other activity apart from academics on the campus.

The complainant stated that: "The school sent out a circular to parents on July 15 to declare July 16 a holiday. Parents went to the school that day to find out the reason behind the holiday. They were shocked to find that this was done to pave way for commercial use of the school campus by conducting counselling for Bachelor of Engineering by a private university. Closing the school for such commercial activities cannot be permitted."

The complainant has also requested that action be taken against the school and a show-cause notice be issued.
