Inspired by partially deaf son, mom designs an amazing hearing aid.

There are a lot of deaf or partially deaf children all around the world, and definitely they don’t really like wearing hearing aids. Sarah Ivermee, when she found out about her son’s partial deafness, designed really awesome and fashionable hearing aids, she named it “Lugs”. Surely, she wanted to make a difference and show children, who have hearing disorder, that wearing hearing aids can be cool!

Many children with hearing disorder are diagnosed at an early age, and since then, they have to go through the trauma of wearing hearing aids. And certainly, Sarah Ivermee’s really helpful and amazing invention helped many kids. This stay-at-home mother customized hearing aids with superhero figures and other embellishments to suit kids. These earpieces have gained so much popularity over social media and other media platforms that Ivermee had to temporarily shut down her website due to “an extremely high volume of orders”.

“We are just a normal family in a little house with a little business in the corner of our living room, trying to help make hearing devices more appealing to children,” Sarah said.

Sarah says that it was his profoundly deaf son, Freddie, who had started using the aid at an age of 2 months, who had inspired her to design something so extraordinary. Though her son had embraced the aid because of his tender age, but had faced some initial few troubles. This made her realize that not every child might be as comfortable with the aid, especially those who’d have to adjust to it in later ages.

“I knew I had to research what was out there to decorate with and create something myself,” Ivermee said. “I found plenty of great pages showing how people decorate their own kits and other mums selling bits to jazz devices up but there were no pre-made kits that were simple to use and had everything you needed to fully decorate your hearing device. So after a lot of trial and error we finally came up with Lugs.”
