The American India Foundation (AIF) has decided to chip in to improve government education in India by providing digital education by giving computer training to the students as well as teachers.
The AIF has selected the Government high school at Sapthagiri colony in Karimnagar town as Digital Equalizer (DE) hub by providing them with 10 desk-top computers, a projector with audio device and English helper software plus broad band connectivity to provide training to teachers. Each such hub will be geared to cater to 10 schools in their location.
The teachers enrolled in the hub would be first provided training and these teachers would in turn share the ideas and approaches in pedagogy and technology integration with teachers of respective schools where the AIF would provide computers. The AIF has plans to set up three hubs in Karimnagar district viz Karimnagar, Sircilla and Huzurabad. The expected cost of the project is $300,000 for a three -year duration.
The DE hub was formally inaugurated by the District Collector Neetu Prasad on Monday. She thanked the AIF gesture to provide digital education to students of government schools. She assured to provide all support including 10% contribution from the district administration for the successful implementation of the project in the district.
Among those who were present were DEO S Srinivasa Chary, deputy DEO, Venkateshwara Rao, headmistress G Pramoda, AIF DE programme regional coordinator Vinay Sanam, Karimnagar district programme associate Nawaz Hussain and others were also present.
