Student's safety has always been a cause of concern to schools and government.
And so, the directorate of education has introduced a scheme to sanction watchmen government-aided secondary schools on May 20. The objective is to provide safety to schools and school property and to guard the school's main gates and check the entries to the premises. The total liability would be around Rs. 1.60 crore and 189 schools would be benefited from the scheme.
Chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar told a media persons on Friday that all recognized government and government-aided secondary schools with enrolment of 250 and above and with Classes V to X will be eligible for the scheme.
The director of education, on receipt of the application from the management of the school, will have to verify the application and then sanction the watchmen.
