Are you parenting your child in the right way? Was your upbringing the right one? Should you raise your child the way you were raised? How is your parenting different from your parents’… answering to all these questions was the actor Anupam Kher on his interactive session parenting and growing up.

The actor along with his audience went live FB author page @ Rujuta Diwekar’s.

Rujuta Diwekar, Bollywood’s weight-loss specialist, invites specialists and celebrities to hold various interactive sessions. She has been regularly holding online session on Beyond Weight Loss with Anupam Kher on a regular basis.

For the jovial, learned and intellectual actor, this was not the first time that he ventured into an arena where kids are the main concern. He had flagged-off his journey here with his chat show ‘Say Na Something to Anupam Uncle’ where he shared screen space with young lil’ kids. And today, children’s favorite Anupam uncle was seen in different avatar, teaching their mommy and daddy how to raise their apple of eye.

Anupam talked about how the change in time has brought about changes in the way children are raised. Reminiscing his own childhood, he narrated various incidents of his childhood, suggesting how elders of the family kept children happy with answering or not answering their questions. However, with the change in lifestyle, hardly does a child have a question, if he does, hardly do his parents have time to answer, and thus gifts like i-pads, i-phones, etc. He said growing-up was as natural as it can get but now everything has changed.

Giving parents tips on how to deal with their kid, he said that today’s kids are smart and parents predictable and the more they are predictable, the more they fall prey to being manipulated by their kids.

There are no set rules for parenting, so every parent has innumerable unanswered questions and few such parents got lucky to attend Anupam’s session. The parents in the audience interacted with the actor over their queries on parenting, which he most gladly quenched. One such parent discussed his 12th grader son, Vedant, aspiring to be an architect but not interested in studies. Anupam advised the parent to stop being predictable to the child and let the child not study if he doesn’t want to and it will bring some unexpected changes. Isn’t it better that children follow their hearts and do what they like, excelling there? Won’t the worst ever incident if they don’t focus on study make others mishaps seem light?

“Don’t make your child your clone, you’re not perfect,” said the actor when another mother talked about the tug of war between her husband and her son over what to become. She said that her husband dreams for their son to be a lawyer, but the son, being tech-savvy aspires to enter I.T. industry.

Good upbringing is what Anupam Kher suggested to help them create a better future generation that would be able to think on its own and simply follow the herd.

Let your children free. Children between the age group of 2-8 years show their inclination towards their interest and decide what they will become for the rest of their life. Let them be themselves, let them be free, and just stand by them for them.

‘Learn to listen,’ is what the actor believes in and conveying the same to the parents he ended the session after satisfying many queries by the parents.
