More Than 800 School Leaders Attend Educarnival Conference 2016

Day 2 at Educarnival was as exciting as the first day. The day opened with an inaugural speech by Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister, Manish Sisodia. He stated that a dogmatic pattern of education was being followed. What could be better than this is that “teachers should have the freedom to express and feel free to teach the way they want", he said.

He also stated that an increase in education has led to increased incidence of crime and related problems and this needs to be found out why. "Let’s dream big about changing the world through education", Manish Sisodia said.

Tiina Malste, Lead Expert, EduCluster Finland delivered an impressive speech stating that students' learning depends on willingness to learn. Talking on the success of Finnish education she said it was all because of teachers, who have been influencing students through their work and variety of study material. She explained certain learning methodologies being used in Finland including ones that incorporate leadership, quality culture and trust.

Mathew Raggett, Head Master, Doon School stated that a school is not just a building; it is an edifice that the teachers build. "Quality of the relationships is actually what schools are made up of", he remarked. Mathew Raggett informed that Doon School would be organising 90 minute sessions for teachers in April next year.

Again in his inimitable style, Dr Harish Chaudhary from IIT Delhi spoke about what makes a great teacher. He stressed there must be no mediocrity and it is important for teachers to enjoy their jobs and be willing to 'give'.

Speaking on reading, Dr. Neeraj Jain from Scholastic stated that reading is the most important right of every child and schools must raise readers and inculcate reading as a habit, particularly in government schools.
