Vasudev Devnani, minister of state for primary and secondary education, inaugurated the Shaala Darpan portal for secondary and primary education, on 12 February.

Focusing on holistic development of students, the web portal will provide parents with online records of the attendance, assignments and achievements of their wards. In case of a child’s absence from school, parents would also receive an SMS, hence making sure that the parents are updated about the whereabouts of their child.

Besides this, the portal will also have updated information about government and government-aided schools — the number of teachers required there, the number of teachers appointed, number of seats available, and the condition of infrastructure, etc.

The portal, developed by National Informatics Centre (NIC), is also aiming to help the students by providing them access to online learning and reference material. It will also prove to be a boon for teachers with automated report-card preparation and generation.
