Examination reforms are the need of the hour. In order to facilitate and provide support to develop a framework for assessment and examination reforms in the country, CBSE approached FICCI ARISE for its inputs. An exhaustive multi-stakeholder brainstorming workshop was organised from March 7-8, 2019 at Mayo College, Ajmer to chart out a roadmap to 'Examination Reforms’ in the country. Drawing from the pattern, principles of assessments and structure followed in different international boards, FICCI ARISE prepared a detailed report for CBSE on ‘Assessments and Examination Reforms.’ This report has been very well received by CBSE, with many of the recommendations incorporated by them in their recent reforms.

The report states that in a dramatically changed world, the skills sets tested in the current Indian examinations are far removed from the skills required for success in real life or in work careers. Schools see their primary benchmark in producing good results in these examinations. Hence the country is experiencing a huge skills gap. As students prepare for skills that are not relevant, the levels of non-employability continue to increase. In such a situation unless reforms in Assessment & Examinations are urgently addressed, the future of the students will be in jeopardy.

The report systematically provides an Executive Summary, Content and Background, Methodology and Approach, Key Discussions and Takeaways, Review and Recommendations of Reforms in the Pipeline by CBSE, Engagement Cycle and Way Forward, as well as Other Recommendations on Principles and Practices of Assessments.

FICCI Alliance for Re-imagining School Education (FICCI ARISE) is a collegium of members representing various facets of the education ecosystem, who have come together to promote the need for quality education for all and the role independent schools can play in achieving this. It endeavours to unify the sectors’ voice at the state and national level and ensure quality education for all.
