On 24th April, a Sunday, which could have been a lazy one, we were at Amar Jawan Jyoti at 4am, still sleepy eyed as we saw several wide eyed youngsters reaching the venue with their parents for running he marathon, Juniorun, starting at 5.30am, organised by Gurgaon Road Runners. Participants had poured in not only from Jaipur schools, but from near-by places too, as large numbers came from the likes of Mayo and some other NGO schools too.

As energetic and enthusiastic were the kids and their parents, the chief guest, Shri Ramcharan Bohra, MP Jaipur and other eminent guests marked their presence. Flagging off the marathon, Bohra, impressed with the number of children participating in Juniorun, as he said, “Jaipur is already a smart city, and what makes it smart is not just the infrastructure but also its people. There have been several marathons organised, however, a run specially organised for kids is the first time. And I take this opportunity to congratulate GRR, the organisers, for a wonderful event.”

The marathon was organised for three different age groups, 4-15, 8-18, 12-18 to run for 3km, 5km, and 10km respectively, all of which saw active participation. Other than these, there was one more category, costume run, which had participants from age group 2-4 years, all of whom had to run with their parents. Pretty exciting and warm was it to see as many as 30 students from Disha, center for special education, Jaipur, participating in the run with an equal zeal.

Excited with the response from Jaipur, organiser Siddharth Chaudhary said that the GRR team will be back in the city the next year, hoping to see a lot many more participants.
