On Sunday, members of the Guest Teachers' Association of Delhi Government Schools staged a silent protest in front of the deputy chief minister's residence to bring to his attention the need for a policy on guest teachers. They also submitted a charter of demands, which included a policy on making permanent appointments and compensation as per scale till that appointment is made.
The members had already met with Manish Sisodia, who is also the education minister, on June 8 earlier and had apprised him of their issues and were verbally assured that their basic issues will be sorted soon. The members sought to remind the minister of his promise in a letter handed to him.
The issues shared with him included permanent appointment of the guest teachers and re-appointment of those removed from job.
The association stated that repeated requests to the government had fallen on deaf ears and they were compelled to stage a peaceful stayagraha without affecting school work on Sunday as the government failed to act for their welfare and no policy framework has been prepared so far.
The association said that government should come out with its policy on guest teachers and take it as a priority so that the school education doesn't suffer and they are not forced to the path of agitation.
