As many as Rs. 12 crore has been spent by the Haryana government on the ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ scheme since its inception in January last year, informs the government post a query by RTI.

Clarifying an RTI query filed by INLD MLA Naina Chautala, the state government brought forth the fact that the state in collaboration with centre government has spent Rs. 11,79,09,288  on government as well as private events associated with 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' scheme in the state.

According to the report by the government, the centre had granted a sum of Rs 2 crore last year on January 21 and 22 for the 2-day inaugural workshop on the scheme.

And later, for the implementation, the centre released Rs. 2.23 crore more for the implementation of the same.

The Ministry of Women and Child Development has been selected as the nodal ministry for the implementation, while the Health and the Information and Broadcasting Ministry will assist it in making the scheme a hit.

Going by the reports, the Ministry of Women and Child Development had spent Rs. 3.55 crore initially, the department of health had granted Rs. 15 lakh.

So here we see departments spending funds for the cause. Where exactly are the education graphics heading to? In a state, where khap rules, khap challenges, we sure need to educate girls, but there’s also a need to make the grown-ups understand the requirement. Are the people ready to send out their girls to schools? Do they really want to see their girl child educated? There still are many doubts surrounding the aim of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme.
