At an age when books should matter most, this boy took to guns. Quite literally.
At merely 16, Imran (not his real name), arrested by the Mumbai Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) and the UP Police in January, could be the youngest terror link in India! Had he not been into ISIS and radicalisation, he would have been studying in class 12, probably.
However, a contest regarding his age has now emerged with his lawyer producing a class 10 certificate that lays claim to this resident of Kushinagar, Uttar Pradesh, being 1999 born, though his electoral card puts him at 20 years of age.
In the meanwhile, as the lawyers debate, there are discussions about how ISIS has started recruiting younger and younger. According to newspaper reports, ATS and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) suggest that Imran was allegedly absorbed as a recruiter by ISIS and his major task as to locate secure hideouts for training jihadis. Along with Imran’s arrest, NIA has arrested 14 other men as well, all of whom reportedly under 24 years.
As per reports, ISIS has now targeted India, especially to radicalise the youth since it is easier to brainwash impressionable minds.
