India is a country which is developing in all aspects especially when we talk about women empowerment be it financially, education, health and hygienic. But the actual truth is, the condition of rural women is still the same when it comes to Menstrual Period. Nearly 88% of Indian women don’t use sanitary pads – instead, they use rags, ashes, newspaper, and sand. This is presented as ignorant and dangerous. It can be: all those materials can carry dirt and disease into the genitals, leading to reproductive and urinary tract infections, though data is still too scarce to provide persuasive figures.
School of Broadcasting and Communication (SBC) has started an initiative using Asia’s most trusted crowd funding platform Ketto and Blossom.
This initiative is to raise funds to donate Sanitary Napkin pads among Below Poverty Line women of across India. For every Rs 100, Blossom will donate 6 sanitary pads each to 5 women. The napkins will be distributed among women laborers, girls living in slum and some to the women in prison.
This sanitary pad provides ultra-soft high absorbency sanitary napkins that can last for a long period of time. The main objective of the product is to provide women comfortable pads at a very reasonable price. Blossom also conducts women hygiene awareness programs in Rural Areas.
The campaign has raised approx. an amount of Rs 50000 by different individuals on behalf of SBC. Tushir Choudhary, Director of SBC said that, “we are happy to partner with Ketto for this initiative. Our aim is to help the women with the basic sanitary need. It’s a long way to go and we will definitely continue this”.
