Children of Sathe Nagar, Mumbai, don’t go to schools. But they want to. Their parents want them to. But it’s the government stopping them to … in a way. A filthy area from Sathe Nagar to their school, which remains uncleaned since long, was hindering their education. But Eshan Balbale, a teenager, is helping these children towards education.

Since the parents did not allow their children to go through the filthy area to avoid infectious diseases that they had to cross on their way to school, Eshan decided and built a 1.5-km bridge across the nullah to bring back these students back to school.

The issue was ignored by the authorities despite many complaints over the years, so the young blood took the charge in his hand and resolved the issue in just few days.

Pained to see the poor condition of the kids, Eshan pondered over the ways of constructing a bridge over the nullah and came out with the idea of bamboo bridge as concrete bridge required BMC’s permission and hence a lot more time.

The 100-foot long and 4-foot wide bridge is capable of carrying 50 people at a time. Besides this bridge, the teenager also has plans of improving sanitation conditions in the area with help from ward office.

Eshan has also started an NGO named ‘Nirbhay Yuva Pratishthan’ 2 months back. On being asked for the source of inspiration for his ideas and energy, he’s quick to name his family there. His parents run a school for underprivileged kids in Thane.

We at ScooTalks are proud of this young hero. Wishing him all the best for his future endeavors, we also hope to see many more such young philanthropists coming up with their ideas to help the needy.
