June 16, 2016 brought a wave of hope and happiness for children; leading towards a better country, an educated country. This wave came in the form of an initiative by the HRD Ministry called 'VIDYANJALI', which is a school volunteer programme involving retired defence personnel, people from Indian diaspora and women home-makers to contribute and volunteer for co-scholastic activites in schools.
There are many eminent personalities, who've already volunteered for the programme and taken classes in schools, including Vasundhara Raje, Anil Kumble, Twinkle Khanna, Kiren Rijiju, N Chandrababau Naidu, Shivraj Chouhan, Rajesh Sahai, Babul Supriyo, Baichung Bhutia, Ruskin Bond, Devendra Fadnavis, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore; the HRD Minister has shown gratitude to them through twitter.
The initiative came into being when in a meeting of state education ministers held on February 8, 2016, 19 states and Union territories expressed their willingness to participate in the programme. She added further "Vidyanjali is a constructive effort to engage participatory citizenry"
