IITians Create Drone to Sanitize Infected Open Areas
A group of students from IIT Guwahati has built a Drone that can spray disinfectant over a large area in a short time.
We’re amazed at the kinds of innovation the Indian students are coming up with during the Coronavirus panic. Apart from making robots that are helping doctors sanitize the isolation wards and distribute food to those quarantined, we now have a group from IIT Guwahati that has come up with another AI innovation to protect us from this deadly virus. These students have built a drone to sanitize larger areas without the need of sending people to spray the disinfectant and putting them at the risk of getting contaminated in return. The group claims that this drone will also save a lot of time as it can cover a large area in 15 minutes that would usually take 1.5 days through manual spraying.
Anant Mittal, a civil engineering student at IIT Guwahati, said, "The roads and areas can be selected on Google maps and the drone can be automated to perform the task within a signal range of 3 km. A drone can cover more than 1.2 hectares in one flight and more than 60 hectares in a day."
In this way, the workers can now operate the drone from a safer position and get the work done efficiently. Throughout the globe, many nations are using groundbreaking technological methods along with prescribed social distancing guidelines. We love how such innovations are surfacing to back up those fighting the virus on the frontline.
