Improved Spoken English in Schools, MoU between Delhi Govt & British Council

The partnership between the British Council and the Delhi government has taken a positive step towards strengthening spoken English in schools by collaborating with Macmillan Education.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the Delhi government and the British Council to produce more learning opportunities for students and teachers. It will impact the lives of more than 12,000 children.

The MoU was signed by Manish Sisodia, Deputy Chief Minister and Alan Gemmell, Director British Council, India at a Delhi government school located in West Vinod Nagar.

As per the official report, Christopher Rodrigues, Chair, British Council along with hundreds of students, teachers and officials were also present.

“The agreement will strengthen partnership between the two sides in the field of education, English language learning, youth skilling, as well as art and culture,” remarked Manish Sisodia.

"We have been working with the British Council and this MoU will expand the scope of our engagements to skill development of youth and cooperation in art and culture as well," added Sisodia.

"The British Council, celebrating its 70th anniversary in India, would be taking forward its journey for the next 70 years through the MoU." Gemmel, Director British Council India, also spoke on the occassion.

"I have been delighted to launch this new partnership at a Delhi government school. We are inspired by the teachers and students of the school and by the ambitious vision of Deputy Chief Minister Sisodia for education across Delhi," he added.

As per reports,the project is being piloted in three Delhi government schools. The project will be expanded to more schools soon.
