Inspite of news about how investors are beginning to get cautious before investing in start-ups, good quality start-ups continue to attract investments. The latest being the 2 crore investment in Chennai based startup S P Robotics Works by Indian Angel Network (IAN) and The Chennai Angels (TCA). The startup provides robotic education to school and college students.
Founded in 2012 by Anna University alumnus, Pranavan and Sneha Priya, SP Robotic Works provides robotic education – practical experiments with mechanical, electronics, programming and algorithm framing to school students from ages 12 to 17, under the brand name ‘Kidobotikz’. It also offers courses in electronics, embedded systems, and PCB designing.
According to the founders, the investment will mainly be used for the growth and expansion of the company. The funds will be diverted in measures like releasing a digital version of the courseware through the Kidobotikz program. It will be launched in Chennai initially, before expanding to other places in South India eventually. Plans are to set up more knowledge centres and start video tutorials on the company portal.
“Robotics is all about practical work. Children want to experiment and since they have time to make mistakes and learn from them, their basics get stronger. We wanted to change the face of Indian Education and bring it on par with the international standards by providing practical experiences to the school students. IAN and TCA are excellent platforms to raise funds, connect with the best network of people and benefit from the guidance provided by the lead groups – who take an extra care even before funding is completed,” said Sneha Priya of SP Robotics.
“SP Robotics is enabling the younger generation think towards solving real problems the Robotics way. One of my portfolios Saahas Zero Waste is working with them providing real time problems to solve. Similarly they are working towards Agritech solutions for our farmers as well. I’m really glad to see the younger generation thinking creatively and bringing innovation like the Swatchhbots,” said Prakasam the P of SP Robotics.
The investment in SP Robotic Works is the ninth such by IAN in 2016, as per data collated by VCCEdge.
