The li’l kids of Jayshree Periwal High School, Jaipur were delighted to see the Iranian puppet show organized by the IMA performers group as a part of the 14th Ishara International Puppet Festival.
The word puppet makes us think of a wooden model with strings, but this puppet show was quite different… with minimal use of puppets and more use of body parts like hands and legs to create a character.
Students from classes’ nursery till 4th had a fun filled hour that had all the elements of masti, from catchy background music, use of vibrant colors, to quirky characters making funny noises. It all looked like you were watching a cartoon movie live.
The puppet show was not only aimed at entertaining the students, but also teaching the young kids about the importance of water. The play showed various scenes where the protagonist ran out of water while bathing, his desperation for water to save his dying plant and fighting over a bottle of water. The children thoroughly loved the act and were giggling, laughing, clapping on the sounds made by the artists. The act completely consumed the kids that when the play ended, the kids didn’t realize it, they were still anticipating more and were in no mood to leave the cheery ambience.

Teacher, Ms Shashwati also said, “Kids were amazed to see the red nose of the characters. They completely felt one with the art and enjoyed it to the fullest.”
When asked whether the students may have understood the act and the message it conveyed, principal of Jayshree Periwal High School, Madhu Maini said, “The students were accompanied by teachers and it’s a norm of the school to take a follow up of whatever the kids learn so this way they will recall all the scenes, like the bottle fight scenes and others.”
