Fr Verghese Joseph, principal of BCM Prominent School received a letter containing a bomb threat by regular post on May 20. The letter claimed to be written by ISIS.

The letter, naturally created panic among the staff of the school and prompted the principal to lodge a police complaint on Thursday. The letter spelled out explicit threats like blowing the school up with a bomb and setting the principal afire if the fee of 2 students was not waived off.

Acting on the complaint, the police have registered a case against Mohammad Usmaan – father of the children for whom the benefits were sought in the letter – and others under relevant sections of the IPC. The police claimed that ISIS doesn’t seem to be the author of the letter.

Citing the safety and security of the school and its over 1300 students, Fr Verghese Joseph said that he immediately approached the police to avoid any untoward incident.  According to him, Mohommad Usmaan, whose 2 children have been studying in the school since past many years, has never been able to pay their fees.

"He has been creating problems for us since the past many years. We had sent him a letter 2 years back asking him to pay Rs 44,000 failing which his children will not be allowed to study in the school. Rather than paying the fees he approached the DEO and complained to him that I was harassing his students and was not allowing them to study in the school," lamented Verghese.

The Nahar Darwaja police station in-charge, RR Gautam claimed that the principal of the school had on several earlier occasions approached the police with complaints against Usmaan.

"Usmaan never pays the fees of his children and now the school authorities have got a threat letter in which his name is mentioned. We are trying to find the accused involved in the matter. The handwritings of Usmaan, his family members and several others will be checked by the forensics experts and further investigations will be carried out in the matter,” Gautam explained the future course of action.

A case was registered against Usmaan under sections 294 (obscene acts and songs), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the IPC and a manhunt has been lodged to arrest him.
