In Ludhiana, private schools have taken an initiative to bridge the gap between students of private schools and government schools by making them "Buddy for a day" under a project of district administration.

The students of private schools will share their knowledge, skills and ideas with them. The school will conduct combined sessions with students and teachers. So far, 15 schools of Khanna area have agreed to be a part of this project and a committee has been set up for the same comprising of deputy district education officer (secondary) Charanjit Singh, deputy district education officer (elementary) Dimple Madaan and four representatives of private schools under the supervision of sub divisional magistrate (SDM), Khanna, IAS Shaukat Ahmed Pare. the administration is also approaching the some NGOs too to join hands for the cause and by the end of May. Some prominent schools like Sacred Heart Convent School, Delhi Public School, Hindu Putri Pathshala are also part of this project.

In an interview for TOI SDM Khanna Pare said, "There would be a cultural programme followed by a session on 'introduce your buddy', some games and debates as well. Since government school students don't have much exposure, bringing them on one platform would help these students become even."

Mohini Badarwaj, vice senior coordinator of Sacred Heart Convent School, Khanna, said, "This is an appreciable move of the district administration of removing discrimination amongst school students. We have realized that when these school students move to college life, those who studied in government schools tend to face some inferiority complex. Government schools have best qualified teachers all they need is infrastructure and some support. We may also plan some inter-school competitions under this project."
