Jaipur-born Hridayeshwar Singh Bhati, all of 13 years, is a powerhouse of talent. To list out his achievements is going to take us a long time, yet we give it a try here!

At an age of merely 9 years, the young lad had invented a six-player variant of chess, with some minor assistance from his father. Bhati, a patient of Duchene muscular dystrophy, got his invention patented in 2012 and became the youngest patent-holder in India of the times.

Though he is wheelchair bound, nothing can mar his enthusiasm and energy as he takes inspiration from world-renowned Stephen Hawking, saying, “I want to be like Hawking who become a famous scientist despite suffering from motor neuron disease.” This also brings us to note the fact that world-wide he is the youngest person on wheelchair to get a patent.

His inquisitiveness and wish to play chess with more than 2 players on board led to this invention which is evident from what his father said, “There are six chess players in our apartment of my son's age. He doesn't like the idea of only two players playing at a time and demanded me to buy a chess board on which more boys can play. When I told him no such chess board is available, he wanted to develop such a chess board.”

His father, a math teacher, helped him sort geometrical complications. It took around six months for the father-son duo to finalise the design. His father informed, “It was a never-ending and continuous process for us and we did not have a set deadline. Being a math teacher, I assisted him whenever there were geometrical complications.”

Besides inventing the circular chess, Hridayeshwar also has to his credit a ramp system that enables easy access to vehicles for disabled. The child is one of the few who was awarded Dr. Batra’s Positive Health Award in the year 2014 by Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

Well! We hope to see this board soon in the World Chess Championship. It will surely be a lot more competitive to rake brains with 5 people than just one!
