Children are everyone’s lifeline and their world is as innocent as them, but making their world even better are the books that makes them travel into the world of imagination.

Nandana Dev Sen, Jerry Pinto, Paro Anand, Nayanika Mahtani, a few authors responsible for creating a fairy land of thoughts for the innocent souls, held quite an interactive session at the Jaipur Literature Festival at the Ford Samvad.

Host of the session Nayanika Mahtani, the author of the book Ambushed, began with introducing other authors to the gathering. The authors went on to share some their experiences about writing.

Nandana, when asked about her journey of writing, said that writing just happened to her. It was her niece for whom she felt compelled to write a book … and followed a journey. Books, she says, are the best thing to put children to sleep; thus, useful to kids as well as parents.

There are many concerns in writing, it doesn’t just happen. Even writing needs a lot of planning and it came out true with Paro Anand saying how she always ends her books on a positive note. She was quick to add that a positive note doesn’t always mean a happy ending, but just an upswing.

Adding a touch of humour and making the audience laugh and giggle was the ever-so-funny Jerry Pinto, who has given out of the box names for each character of his book. He said that as a young Roman Catholic lad he was made to read Bible everyday and so when he learnt about Adam who was given the right to name everything, he asked his dad why can’t he name things, laughing at the innocence of the young Jerry, his dad said you first learn to pronounce hippopotamus.

And in the question round when somebody asked Jerry, what if a movie based on his novel is way different from the inspiration. A very positive Jerry was quick there saying, “Tere muh me ghee-shakar…,” which made the entire crowd broke into laughter but Jerry, with a lot more hopes still, said, “May all our books get recognized and our made into movies so that we all have big luxurious farm houses.”
