Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam might not be with us anymore, however, his memories and inspiring words are here to stay forever. Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam’s birthday, 15th October, has been declared as “World Student Day” by United Nations Organization (UNO) in the year 2010. It is certainly a subject of great honor for the country. Hardly did anyone know about this fact, however, with the sudden sad demise of the People’s President, this fact has suddenly become known all around.

Born on 15th October 1931, Dr. Kalam became the 11th President of India and served the country from 2002 to 2007. Other than many things that he was known for, it was his love for students that he was quite well-known for. Interacting with children, satisfying their queries was one of his hobbies and was thus invited for many seminars and lectures. It was amid one such interaction in Shillong on 27th July 2015 that he had a cardiac arrest and breathed his last. His last lecture, “The Livable Planet Earth,” at the IIM Shillong will be remembered for long.

It was the way that he connected with students, inspiring them with each of his words that the UNO in 2010 decided to declare his birthday as World Student Day.

Enjoying what he called to be his favorite profession, teaching, he generally travelled worldwide and gave lectures on wide range of topics like Science, Education and Politics.
