Sports, an integral part of life, was celebrated with full vigour at Edify School, Kanakpura Road, Bengaluru during their second annual sports day. This day was named VISION 2020 and was dedicated to Dr APJ Abdul Kalam. The chief guest for the evening, Dr Sanjeev Kumar, COO of Vasavi Hospital Kumaraswamy Layout, declared the sports meet open by releasing the tri-coloured balloons in the air.

The sports meet then began with the host of the day quoting Dr Kalam, “Difficulties in your life do not come to destroy you, but to help you realize your hidden potential and power, let difficulties know that you too are difficult” and hence inspiring the younger generation of the nation to strive hard for success.

The first event of the day was a well-synchronised march-past and drill by the youngsters, which was the school’s way to discuss the importance of physical education and activity in our daily lives. This was followed by a race for tiny tots, who had to reach a basket to pick a ball from it and run towards the bigger basket to drop the ball.

The second was a race where the kids had to pick vegetables, run with it towards the basket where they had to drop it. The kids were brimming with energy, racing and picking their favourite vegetables, making it a sight to watch them put in their all.

A sports day is incomplete without a relay race; however, there was a slight twist with the kids running to first relay where they had to blow a balloon, pass it to their partners who then took it ahead to another partner and so on.

Well, it wasn’t all about races, there were many more activities on display, with the likes of taekwondo by the students, a dance representing panchtatva or the elements that the human body is made up of. And it ended with the highlight of the day… prize distribution.

Students, although tired after all the races, beamed with their medals, trophies and certificates, shouting for their houses.
