Every year UNESCO organizes International Literacy Prizes, dedicating each year to a specific theme. 2020’s theme is ‘Teaching and learning literacy: The role of educators and changing pedagogies.’

You can nominate yourself and be an applicant. Apart from this, the NGOs and Governments of Member States and those who maintain official relations with UNESCO can also nominate educators who deserve accolades for the great work.

The deadline for applications is 28 June 2020 and for the nominations, it is 12 July 2020. All these applications will go through a nomination process by the National Commissions for UNESCO or an NGO maintaining official relations with UNESCO. The prize gives special consideration to literacy amongst adults in rural areas and out-of-school youth, particularly girls and women. Each of the five prize winners receives a medal, a diploma and US$20.000.
