While it is often reported that Government Schools in India are not upto the mark and lack even basic facilities like drinking water and toilets, there is another less reported but more optimistic and inspirational story – The story of initiative being taken by civic bodies to improve infrastructure and provide the best quality education to students. One such story is of the Prince Shivaji Vidyamandir at Kolhapur, Maharastra.

The Prince Shivaji Vidyamandir at Jadhavwadi has become the first school under the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation to receive an ISO certification 9001:2015.

Kolhapur Municipal Corporation runs around 50 schools, had applied for the ISO certification in May.The inspection at the school took place in June. The school, which has around 300 students studying from the first standard to seventh standard, is being recognized for facilities such as e-learning and computer room, and interactive teaching staff.

The facilities provided to students are improving every year. Also, the strength of students has increased in the past few years. Currently, the total number of students studying in the KMC-run schools is 8,000. The ISO certification has boosted the morale of the civic administration to develop the other schools also on the lines of Prince Shivaji Vidyamandir.
