Sports wing of Education Department is all set to give a tough time to private unaided schools that haven’t yet paid sports fee for the academic 2013-14 and 2014-15.
The schools are supposed to collect Rs. 10 from students of Classes IX and X and Rs. 12 from student of Classes XI and XII, the thus collected amount is to be deposited to the Education Department. Of the total amount deposited, 80% is taken by the government and the rest 20% is reserved for the schools to be used for sports activities.
However, as per the reports, around 30 private unaided schools of the city haven’t paid the fees since 2013.
To look into the matter, district education officer called a meeting with the private unaided schools where Ajit Pal Singh, Assistant Education Officer (Sports) said, “Several private unaided schools have not deposited the sports fund. Now the deadline of March 31 has been given to them. The department may seek interest from schools if the deadline is not adhered to.”
Though principals of certain schools didn’t seem satisfied with this, which is evident from what the principal of one school said, “This monthly system is a waste of time. Collecting and depositing sports fee is not convenient at all. We have also asked the department to make it a yearly process, but they did not listen to us.”
