Madurai Corporation schools continues to inspire with record pass percentage
The pass percentage at the Madurai Corporation schools continued its upward trend over the years with another record figure this year. This year the figure stood at 95.79 while the performance last year stood at 93.99%
In a heartening show of academic performance, Madurai Corporation run schools have set a new record in pass percentage in the class X board exams. This year, the overall pass percentage stands at 95.79, the highest ever recorded.
The performance of Corporation schools has shown a positive trend over the years. Last year, the pass percentage was 93.99% while it stood at just 87.12% in 2012. Corporation officials revealed that special coaching classes conducted this year boosted the pass percentage by close to 2%.
Continuing the trend, girls outnumbered boys in terms of grades. A whopping 96.52% of girls passed the exam, whereas the same figure for boys stands at 93.41%. What further highlights the intellectual prowess of girls is that the sheer number of girls who appeared for the exams was more than 3 times the number of boys.
Girls led by scoring higher marks as well, as all 3 top positions were bagged by girls. B Banurekha from EVR Nagammaiyar Corporation Girls' Higher Secondary School secured 493 marks to claim the top spot among all the Corporation school students. S Rajeshwari from Kasthurba Gandhi Corporation Girls' Higher Secondary School stood second with 490 marks.
The third spot was shared by 2 girls with 489 marks each – N Gnaneshwari from EVR Nagammaiyar Corporation Girls' Higher Secondary School and B Chithra from Velliaveethiyar Corporation Girls' Higher Secondary School.
It is natural when the pass percentages are hovering around the early 90s that some of the schools would have breached the 100% mark. 8 schools out of the 24 run by the Corporation have achieved the envious figure of 100% pass. Velliveethiyar, Ponmudiyar, Manimegalai, Munichalai Corporation Coeducation School, Bharathiyar, NMSM, Tallakulam Corporation High School and Maraimalai Adigalar School secured centum results.
