On Thursday, Magsaysay awardee and activist Sandeep Pandey took to the street protesting outside Lucknow Public Collegiate, Jopling Road demanding admission for a 6-year-old Richa, daughter of Durgawati, in class 1 under the Right to Free and Compulsory Education Act (RTE).

Pandey was compelled to protest as even though the parent had a valid copy of the Basic Shiksha Adhikari's order directing the school to admit the child, the school denied having received any directions to do so. The parents alleged that they have been making rounds of the college.

According to Durgawati, Thursday was the sixth time she was visiting the school requesting for admission. “I have been making rounds but didn't get the admission form despite the Basic Shiksha Adhikari's order,'' said Durgawati who is a door-to-door sales person.

School principal Rajiv Gupta clarified his stand saying, “The vacations are going on. Outsiders came in and barged into my room and the director's office. We gave them the admission form and told them that we have not got any letter from the BSA. We are now writing to BSA to look into the matter.''
