Mumbai schools have been directed to register themselves as digital schools under the Pragat Shaikshanik Maharashtra (PSM) programme.

On April 12 the south zone education inspector had issued a circular for all south Mumbai schools to this effect. Almost 11,228 schools across Maharashtra have already been digitalised, according to the registration records till Feb 2016. However, not a single school from Mumbai city has registered so far.

The circular asks the schools to conduct a self assessment against the given 25 criteria which qualifies schools to call themselves progressive and digital. If the schools fit those criteria, then they can register themselves as digital schools. Additionally, if the teachers are comfortable with use of technology, then that information also needs to be updated on another given website. Given the idle pace of Mumbai schools they have been asked to immediately start registration and send a report to the education office.

Uday Nare, teacher at Hansraj Morarji Public School, Andheri, said: "From today, in many schools, the training has started on how to register on the given website as a progressive and digital school."
