National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) recently announced an Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) to enhance the teacher education system in India. The programme aims at nurturing class 12 pass students for a committed and responsible profession. Enrolled students will be required to complete the 4 year course within eight semesters or in other case can complete the programme within a maximum period of 6 years.

Who are eligible to apply? Applicants with minimum 50 per cent marks in the class 12 exam. The admission will be on merit basis. As per the policy of the University or State Government or Union Territory Administration, the admission can either be based on merit or through an entrance exam.

The classes for the ITEP course will begin in 2019. And the programme will be offered in Arts and Science streams only in the beginning.

Institutions that wish to offer the course (first academic year 2019-2023) can go through the eligibility norms set by the Council. Further, they can submit their applications for the grant of permission or recognition from December 3 to 31, 2018.
