Nevada Teacher Uses Cardboard Cut-Outs to Make a Life-Size Classroom
“It means so much. I’m filled with joy to be their teacher.”
Tara Swartz is a grade five teacher in Las Vegas, Nevada, and just like every other teacher in the world right now, she misses her students during the COVID lockdown, too. In order to deliver good education via video calls and online platforms to her students while also wanting to feel close to them, she recently came up with an amazing idea inspired by baseball games.
Tara built a life-size cardboard classroom in her school with her 26 students’ picture cut-outs pasted on cardboard sheets. Tara told Fox5, "At the baseball games you see the cardboard cutouts in the background. We thought that's a great idea. What if we did that with the kids? They'll get to see themselves and we'll get to see them."
She collected pictures of her pupils with the help of their parents, got them enlarged and then pasted them on cardboards. Instead of having to look at 26 little boxes on her laptop screen, Tara can now look at her students' faces any time of the day and miss them a little less.
"It means so much," an emotional Tara said. "I'm filled with joy to be their teacher."
Her students also love the idea, they think it is ‘creative and cute’ to look at their life-size cut-outs placed as if it's an actual classroom. They all feel closer to each other and their teacher now.
We guess Tara’s attempt to bring her scattered online class together during these awful times has worked best for her kids as well.
