NHPS girl’s make India proud: Bag People’s Choice Award in Technovation 2016.
The all girls team from NHPS has beat 400 teams to winning the award for their mobile application ChangEd. It is an android platform which allows NGOs involved in education sector to sign up and meet their financing needs for various projects through donations.
A few weeks ago, this website had reported about the inspiring journey of an all girls team from the New Horizon Public School in Indiranagar, Bengaluru who were all set to represent the country at the coveted Technovation Challenge 2016 in San Francisco.
The girls, Nidhi Nair, Aanchal Agarwal, Suchrithaa Rajkumar, Vidhi Kothari and Anushka P Nair, all students of grade IX have won the People's Choice Award across all categories and bagged the second place in middle school category at the prestigious challenge.
The girl’s Android app ChangEd won them the second place from among 400 competing teams from across the globe. ChangEd stands for Change for Education through Donation, wherein NGOs involved in education sector can sign up to meet their financing needs for various projects through donation. The smart phone application enables the users to donate change in small denominations through payment gateways like PayTM.
What’s more, the app has an in-built logic which intelligently determines which NGOs to route the donations to depending on factors like the urgency and the amount required. The app is flexible enough to allow even a shopkeeper and a cab driver to become donors. Vidhi Kothari says, "It was a great experience to meet so many people, all devotees of technology." While Suchrithaa Rajkumar says, "The event was a great exposure for us. It taught me how to deal with unexpected situations."
This isn’t the teams first big ticket achievement. The girls were also a part of the team which won accolades by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Digital India and Save the Girl Child initiatives.
"This is not just any achievement. It signifies a triumph of girl power and team work. I am delighted that the girls have put technology to a great cause by adding value to addressing illiteracy challenges in India. These are the precise values we try to inculcate in the students at NHPS," said the principal, Sandhya Raman.
