Beating the contemporaries behind, London became the world’s number one city in the Most Preferred International Universities list.

Indian institutes have failed to make a place in the recently released 2016 list of the 200 most preferred international universities in the world by Times Higher Education. What is all the more surprising is the fact that the list has institutes from 28 countries across the world but still not a single one from India could make it there.

As per the reports (TOI), the rankings were a compilation of each selected institution's proportion of international staff, international students and research papers published with at least one co-author from another country.

Beating the total number of institutes from the whole of US, Canada and France combined, London became the world’s number one city in the list.

Topping the charts was Qatar University, which came as a surprise. However, Qatar University has thus become the first ever Middle Eastern institute to make it to that position.

The other 10 positions are held by the University of Luxembourg (2nd), University of Hong Kong (3rd), Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne in Switzerland (4th), University of Geneva (5th), University of Macau (6th), ETH Zurich – Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (7th), University of St Gallen (8th) and the National University of Singapore (9th).
