The time has come to consolidate the existing schools and create adequate first-grade infrastructure for them rather than opening new schools except in remote areas and that too depended on the specific need of that area, said Chief Minister Shri Virbhadra Singh. Singh was speaking at the inauguration of the newly constructed block of Government Senior Secondary School, Chotta Shimla.

Addressing the gathering, the CM said that new schools were either opened or upgraded in Himachal Pradesh only after conducting a proper survey after considering the distance and strength of the students, barring few remote areas where schools were opened considering the hard topography.

He said that the state had performed well and enough has been achieved in the field of education with the state ranking second only after Kerala in terms of literacy in the India. “I think sufficient schools have been opened and we have reached the saturation point, adding that the stage of expansion has been achieved and now the existing schools would be rationalized and consolidated”, he said.

It is planned to open new schools only in those areas, where the Government research shows there is a dire need for one, said he. He added, that the time was not far when every school in the remotest area would be equipped to provide basic education to students at their door-steps.

Apart from this, plans were on the anvil to reconstruct the Sanjauli GSSS on modern lines and adequate budget was also available for the same. Only the No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Municipal Corporation was awaited.

Mayor, Shri Sanjay Chauhan said that the Government schools in the state fared better than many private schools. He also declared to issue the NOC for the construction work on the building of GSSS, Sanjauli.
