Number of Indian Students Increase in the US … But why ?

Indians make the best of everything they have at their disposal; it has been clearly proved by the rise in the number of Indians studying in the US. According to data released by the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS), the number of Indian students in the US in January 2014 were 105,426 which elevated to 181,051 by November 2015. This number is far greater than the number of Chinese Students in the US. What is making so many Indian students opt for the US. Let’s try and analyse.

1.    Affordable Post-graduation
While 30% of the Chinese students are enrolled in master’s programme,  the number of Indian students enrolled for master’s programme is far greater, 77% of the total.

Indian students not only outnumber Chinese students, but they also opt for inexpensive 4-year bachelor’s degrees compared to Chinese (36%).
Indian students are supported through bank loans, it’s family and private resources that come to rescue for Chinese students to pay for their fees that amounts between $23,800 (Rs. 16 lakh) at public colleges and universities to $32,400 at private institutions.

2.    Work Opportunities
According to a study, Indian students mostly opt for engineering, computer science, and related STEM (science-technology-engineering) fields that yield them golden chance to work in US through OPT (Optional Practical Training).
Furthermore, after completion of the program, OPT allows students to gain 12 months of experience and the students with STEM programmes have an extra benefit as they can apply for additional 17 months or work experience.

3.    Students Go For more technology sector jobs

With rapidly growing technology sector in the world, the Indian students target for IT hubs in the US. According to SEVIS, nearly 40% of the Indian students are confined in major IT hubs of US, California (30,823), Texas (21,590), and New York (17,711).
