Education is the right of every individual, indifferent of where they come from, what they do or who they are. It is the one thing that equalizes us and helps us stand among them who hold an advance status due to socio-economic factors.

And although, opportunities to receive education are given to these children, it comes at the price of discrimination. And that’s the hard reality. So, even though they want to, some students are deemed undeserving to receive education. Yes, the students in question belong to the SCs and STs.

In an effort to rectify the wrongdoings of the society towards these ill-fated young souls, Biju Patnaik Adarsha Vidyalaya, a residential school for the ST students, is being set up on Palur Hill in Rangeilunda block of the Ganjam district of Odisha.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik laid the foundation stone for the school. The first of its kind, this English-medium school, affiliated with CBSE, aims at imparting quality education to over 3,000 students along with providing hostel and other infrastructure facilities.

It has been sanctioned an amount of 45 crores from which are to be constructed an academic block, a hostel building, staff quarters, a playground and a boundary wall over the span of 20 acres.

However, it is interesting to note that this is not as far as it goes. As stated by a higher education minister, Pradeep Panigrahi, the establishment of other such schools to provide education to the misfortunate in the other states as well, will depend on the success of Biju Patnaik Adarsha Vidyalaya.
