Ola too has taken a step towards providing education via the Ola Gurukul.

What is Ola Gurukul?

Ola, the mobile application for easy and quick transportation, has joined hands with EduKart to provide education to the families of its drivers or driver partners.  EduKart, as a partner now, will facilitate admissions for Ola drivers or their children at schools and colleges it already partners with. As a part of this programme, EduKart will also be helping the Ola drivers’ family with scholarships and fee-discounts.

All over India?

No. Not on an immediate basis. But gradually, yeah, all over India. For the starters, the programme has been initiated in New Delhi, and will soon follow in other metros of Mumbai, Kolkata, Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai.

Why this measure?

As Pranay Jivrajka, the COO of Ola, says, “We aim to play our part in ensuring more and more children across the country have access to quality school and college education. We have hundreds of thousands of driver partners who work with us across 100+ cities today.”
He continues to say, giving answers to our Why, “The objective of the Gurukul program is to enable access to quality education for children and family members of our partners. We think this will make a significant impact on India’s future as well as to the lives of our driver partners. We hope more and more drivers on our platform avail of this opportunity.”

How does this work?

The join venture, Ola Gurukul, will focus on each and every student, assisting each of them with not just enrollment but also a successful completion of the course they enroll in. EduKart has come up with several plans of support to students, depending on the kind of educational programme they opt for.

Can this be real?

Well, it is just the initiative. Let’s stay hopeful for it to become a success. Many drivers and their children have hopes now. As per some media reports, one of the drivers, Vir Chand who’s son is studying in Class 12th, says, “My son is studying in 12th standard and is working hard to fare well in his exams. This is a turning point in his life. He has to decide on how to build his career.”
