Patna’s ‘Super 30’ does it again. 28 out of 30 crack IIT entrance
Patna’s fabled ‘Super 30’ did not fail to excel this year as well. A crop of children from underprivileged backgrounds getting free coaching, food and boarding by Anand Kumar have once again tamed the IIT. 28 of the 30 have scored this year.
There is hardly anybody from the field of academics who isn’t aware of the Super 30 from Patna. Those 30 potential students from the under privileged families who get tutored for the IIT entrance for free by mathematician Anand Kumar.
For years, the Super 30 students have been scoring and passing with flying colours and this year too, the students did Anand proud. 28 out of 30 candidates qualified in the JEE Advance results. That the successful students are wards of marginal farmer, daily wager and small time teachers makes this achievement even more special.
The Super 30 are coached out of the residence of Anand Kumar in Patna, where the students from underprivileged sections are provided free coaching along with food and lodging.
Visibly elated, Anand Kumar said that the stellar show was completely due to the students' hard work and sincerity.
"I would have been happier had all the 30 students made it. But it cannot be always like that. I wish all the success to those who have not been able to make it. They will certainly excel in their chosen fields" he added, thanking the entire Super 30 team, his family members and the students for the success.
Since its inception in 2002, Anand Kumar’s institution has delivered extraordinary results in the JEE exam and the feat has been widely appreciated across the world.
One of the success stories this year is Bipin Kumar, whose mother Kumari Chanchala is a teacher in a small private school far away in Palamu (Daltonganj), while his father Vijay Kumar Gupta is unemployed. The family lives hand to mouth and barely makes the ends meet.
"After class X, I felt like discontinuing my studies, as my family just could not afford further education. Thinking of IIT was just out of question", the boy recalled, after telling his parents about his success.
Bipin is not alone; Super 30 is replete with such stories. If one is the son of a daily wage labourer, another is the son of a private security guard or a jobless person.
"I am the first person in my family to have continued my study. My father is not even aware as to what I have done, though he always encouraged me to pursue education" said Basant Kumar, another successful candidate.
Congratulating the successful candidates, Kumar said, "I feel for the 2 who could not make it. They had also done a lot of hard work. Success or failure doesn't matter. I am confident; even those 2 will get into good institutions to make a mark in life."
