In what could be a case of making a mountain of a mole hill 6 minor children were detained by the police for 5 hours for playing cricket in the Police Training School (PTS) ground. Action was initiated against the children after the IG posted at the school ordered that they be arrested for unauthorised use of the premises.

The 6 children were released only after a counselling session by the policemen instructing the children to stay away from the ground and on the intervention of their parents.

On Friday, last week, IG BR Mina, who is posted at the school, caught some children playing in the PTS ground during an inspection. Incensed by their presence on the ground, he immediately ordered that they be arrested. While some children managed to run away, 6 of them couldn’t get away and were caught and sent to civil lines police station.

Inspector Civil Lines, Brham Pal Singh confirmed that 6 children were detained on the complaint of the IG P.T.S. Mina sent in a written complaint demanding that the children be arrested but no action has been taken against the detained children because all of them were minors, he said.

ASP (Rural) Moradabad Sujata Singh said no action was possible against the children as they were juveniles but they were advised not to come to the P.T.S area as their games were interrupting in the police training.

However, this incident also can be used as an example for any civil individual not to trespass property held by the police or the armed forces. These elite forces are for the protection of the public and hence, the public should respect their property and their training apparatus.
